AION 2 Essence Extraction Guide — Novice to Professional
How Essence Extraction works, why progression stops at Novice 50, and how to clear the upgrade quest.
Essence Extraction is AION 2's gathering life skill: you extract essence from resource nodes — ore, gemstones and plants — scattered across the open field. Every gather advances the skill, starting at Novice rank.
Nodes spawn at fixed positions and respawn on a timer after being gathered, so farming a loop through a dense cluster is the standard leveling pattern.
Gather any nodes you can reach — Elyos level in Verteron, Asmodians in Altgard. Node positions never change, so mark a loop and repeat it as nodes respawn.
The Verteron gathering map marks all 133 node positions extracted from the client; Asmodians can enable the Gathering layer on the Asmodae map (39 positions).
Essence Extraction stops gaining levels at Novice 50. To break through to Professional you must complete the upgrade quest [Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty Skill, which requires a Splendent Ruby (Bound).
The Splendent Ruby has no node of its own — it is a rare bonus drop while extracting ordinary Ruby deposits, and the Bound requirement means it must drop for you. Elyos deliver it to Korius in Verteron; Asmodians get the equivalent quest from Alzirr in Altgard.
In Verteron, Ruby deposits concentrate along the outer walls of the Verteron Citadel Ruins (southeast of the Dawn Legion Base), with the middle Ellun River as fallback.

Turning in the Splendent Ruby advances Essence Extraction to Professional, lifting the level cap so gathering grants skill experience again. Higher ranks gate richer nodes and feed the crafting professions, so keeping the skill moving is worth the detour to the Ruby areas.
